Portrait Sessions

My goal is to capture true personalities and unscripted moments. Your portrait session can be in a location of your choice — your backyard, a park, one of Charleston’s historic locations or along the edge of the Atlantic. We’ll allow about an hour, which includes time for a clothing change and plenty of time for your child to forget about the camera (or warm up to it).

As with most things in life, simplicity is best. Clothing should be comfortable and appropriate based on the weather on the day of your session. White tops can lend a classic look to black and white images, but colors tend to be more flattering to skin tones. Punches of pattern and color work well, so don’t be afraid to add some personality. For group shots, strive to coordinate instead of match. What looks endearing on a toddler is often not going to be the best look for the parents. Be yourselves! Wear something that makes you feel vibrant and at ease. Bare feet can enhance the timeless feel of portraits; thankfully Charleston weather allows for this more months than not.

I am not a fan of multiple props and staged settings. That said, a special toy, fave furry friend or whimsical accessory can help mix things up in a few shots, so feel free to bring along something that’s special to your child.

Drop me a note with your questions and thoughts.
